I am sure almost everyone is familiar with Nextel and Boost Mobile PTT ( push to talk), national walkie talkie service.
But, did you know that there are a hand full of these phones that have a very unique feature built into them
called Moto Talk ? This is a model specific feature that allows you to use the phone as a short range walkie talkie,
without a service plan.
The Motorola phones that have Moto Talk (also referred to as Direct Talk), here listed below.

So, if you have one of these phones somewhere in your home, office, or car, as long as the
SIM card is still in tact, you can get the phone to go into Direct Talk (Moto Talk) mode.
People have claimed to have gotten a range of up to 5 miles. (conditions do apply I am sure).
This is worth looking into for perhaps work groups, and/or social activities.
